Siem Reap Tourist Information
Millions of people descend on Siem Reap each year and the reason why they all come – Angkor Wat, of course. However, to ensure that you get the most out of your stay, you’ll find this handy information very helpful for when you visit Siem Reap and Cambodia.
Getting Around Siem Reap and Cambodia
Taxis are quick and efficient!
One of the best ways to travel through the town and around Cambodia is to take a taxi. A lot of these however don’t use a meter, so you should ensure the driver and you agree on the fare before starting the trip. You can choose between taking a shared cab or a private one.
In the former, you will be charged for one seat alone, and the driver will fill up the rest of the taxi with more people. This is cheaper, but the taxi driver may make you wait till enough people get one. He may also take a round about route to your destination if he has to drop off more passengers.
Safety is also a concern in some cases as the driver may fit eight passengers in a cab to make as much money as he can. A private cab on the other hand, while more expensive, may prove to be more comfortable- it depends on what you want!

Quite a few bus operators exist as private service providers. They have buses, minivans, as well as a few more vehicles with which you can get around the country.
There are night buses, VIP services, and cheap local bus services.
There are also tuk tuks in abundance in Siem Reap and you’re never too far away from a tuk tuk driver who you will take you to most places in town for a few dollars.

The Two Seasons of Cambodia!
Tropical Weather and Climate
Thanks to being located in a tropical region of the world, Siem Reap has two major seasons- the hot and wet one, and the cooler, dry one. During the hot and wet season, which is between April and October, the mercury levels shoot up to as high as 40 degrees Celsius. Humidity is also prominent, which may make you feel very sweaty. This may make you feel more tired than usual. In the colder, dry season, the temperature can drop to as low as 15-20 degrees Celsius after sunset, and is around twenty odd degrees during the day. You may find this warmer than usual if you are visiting from a colder nation.
A good time to visit is the rainy season, thanks to how verdant the country side is. This is cause the rice fields are ready to be harvested. In the hot season, you might find yourself getting more tired while touring all the temples, especially thanks to the dust which rises everywhere.

Basic Health and Safety Guidelines
How to keep your possessions safe?
How to keep your possessions safe?
When compared with the rest of the world, the health care system here is a tad outdated. You might find it a bit difficult as well as expensive to find a good health care center. Ensure that your health insurance is in order before travelling here, and in case you fall ill, check with your insurance agents as to which hospital/clinic is the ideal option to visit. If you are in a serious condition, you might have to travel to another country to get the needed treatment.
Pharmacies are also a bit dubious in the region thanks to their lack of control measures. Often, pharmacists lack qualifications, and peddle fake medicines and drugs. Visit proper, renowned ones to ensure you don’t get taken in.
Keep Yourself Safe from Those Pesky Mosquitoes
Siem Reap, thanks to its location in a tropical region, mosquitoes are present in large numbers. Though the chances of you getting malaria are not high, it is still possible to get dengue even if you don’t go exploring in jungles. The best way to keep the disease away is to use enough insect repellant, as well as wear long sleeved attire which will keep your skin covered. When you’re going to bed, have a fan running, or use a mosquito net to ensure they stay away. Organic alternatives are available instead of chemical insect repellents, so you don’t have to worry about allergies.
Thanks to its tropical location, Siem Reap often has the mercury rising. Thanks to this, you may find your hydration levels rapidly dropping. Keep drinking water, and carry some around with you as you explore the region. You may find yourself drinking more than you usually do- don’t worry, this is completely natural!
